ABOUT THE FARM HOLDING
Celia and Geoffrey run a 56 acre calf to beef farm and Celia was brought up here. Along with their love for rearing beef their other big interest is horticulture and this is incorporated in most areas of the farm.
Both Celia and Geoffrey are qualified horticulturalists. Celia teaches level 4 Horticulture and farms evenings and weekends. Geoffrey works 3 days a week as a gardener at Adare Manor and farms the other 4 days and in the evenings.
Geoffrey has recently completed a bee keeping course and would like to incorporate this within the farm or community.
A SOCIAL FARMING DAY
- Animal care: feeding and cleaning out from calves and monitoring their health and well being; feeding and monitoring well being of 1-2 year old heifers; feeding hens and collecting eggs
- Plant care: sewing seed, and propagation of plants; care of horticultural crops in poly-tunnel; reestablishing vegetable garden
- General maintenance: maintenance of farm walls; preparing sheds for overwintering animals including white washing of walls
LOCAL & COMMUNITY INTERESTS
Geoffrey and Celia are both involved in Rathkeale Tidy Towns. Celia is a Scout Leader with Rathkeale Beaver Scouts (Limerick 3rd) and a member of Rathkeale Playground Committee.
